Mt. Pelee 1-25-07

It is the second day of our Mt. Pelee project. Today we learned alot of interesting facts about Mt. Pelee. Back in 1902 the great Mt. Pelee erupted and made flowing rivers of magma it approximatley killed a little over 29,00 people. It destroyed the town of St. Pierre. This is the largest casualties caused by a valcanic eruptiont to happen in this century. Mt. Pelee, a stratovolcano made mostly of pyroclastic rocks is on the north end of the island of Martinique. Martinique is part of the Lesser Antilles volcanic arc. The arc is formed by the subduction of the North American Plate under the Caribbean Plate. A sight you can go to and find out more interesting facts to look at would be http://csf.colorado.edu/psn/marx/other/Luxemburg/Archive/1902-mar.htm
